Municipalities 2020/Brava: Clóvis Silva says his candidacy will be guided by the principles of opportunity and equality

PAICV (opposition) lawyer and deputy Clóvis Silva leads the party's candidacy on Brava Island, in the October 25 municipal elections in Cape Verde, with a focus on “opportunity and equality” for all.

As explained by the candidate of the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV) to Inforpress, he has been working for Brava as a politician for nine years and the choice of PAICV to lead the team on the island is a decision that has been considered for a long time. already some time.

Asked about what principles he intends to work on during the campaign, Clóvis Silva said that the platform is already under construction, where his team will have the opportunity to present it to the population and that it is guided by two words: “opportunity and equality ”.

Because, as he explained, Brava is an island that “unfortunately” lacks these two principles. “An island that has a great youth, which unfortunately suffers from inactivity. At Brava we have 30 percent (%) of people working to support a whole”, said the candidate.

That is, he reinforced that the island has about 70 percent (%) of inactive people, who are not old enough to work, or are already elderly, or have some limitation, or even being young, “they are not having the opportunity and equal treatment to be able to access at least those conditions not only to have a decent job, but also to feel that they are contributing to the development of the island”.

He said that they are working on the project, always thinking of a collective, because, he said, they don't want to overtake anyone.

According to the same source, “it is a huge challenge”. But, he reinforced that Brava is an island with many potentialities and those who are from the island have the notion that they must do something. And, the duty to do something “implies a delivery and a commitment”.

Delivery and commitment that according to him is never an individual or personal option, but collective and a commitment of a team.

Before deciding, Clóvis Silva said that his first option was to listen to people and see to what extent the population would accept a decision of this type.

He reinforced that his team's project is collective and that it not only includes the people who live here on Brava, but also the people from Brava who live in other parts of Cape Verde and the world in order to come together around an alternative.

“Right now Brava has a governance and we would never say that this governance did nothing, we are not going to make a clean slate of what they have done so far, but we believe that we can do more, always within our conscience that we have to work with that that we have”, emphasized Clóvis Silva.

However, he says that it is necessary to mobilize people, not only financially, but in terms of commitment and with a project and to mobilize society around this project.

“We are not going to carry out any type of campaign that is offensive, our enemies are poverty, unemployment, problems with housing, health, transport, among others”, he underlined.

Finally, the PAICV candidate on Brava guaranteed that “opponents will receive constructive criticism and a posture worthy of respect and, above all, ethics” which is what has guided his team since the beginning of this option.
